Kalpataru PU and Degree College

Kalpataru College was started in 1962 with philanthropic support from visionaries like Shri Pallagatti Adavappa, and also donations from denizens of Tiptur and surrounding villages. The founder Principal of the college was Prof. J.R. Mahalingaiah who worked tirelessly to lay a strong foundation to the institution. Initially all the streams of Arts, Science and Commerce were offered under Kalpataru College. In 1982, as the strength increased manifold, the Kalpataru College was bifurcated into Kalpataru Science College and Pallagatti Adavappa Arts and Commerce College for a smoother administration. The Pre-University sections of both the colleges were clubbed together to form Kalpataru P U College during 2001, allowing the parent institutions to function as First Grade Degree Colleges, namely Kalpataru First Grade Science College and Pallagatti Adavappa Arts and Commerce First Grade College.

In the beginning the college was affiliated to Mysore University and then came under the jurisdiction and affiliation of Bangalore University. Since 2005 it is affiliated to the Tumkur University. The College has always been in the vanguard in securing distinctions and ranks in different disciplines every year. The institution takes pride in possessing consistently resourceful and dedicated staff and equally studious and meticulous pupils. The students are motivated and inspired by providing with all the necessary infrastructural support. Besides providing internet facility to each department, the college has a network laboratory with twenty computers exclusively for the students’ use. The college has imparted high quality education to all sections of society regardless of poverty, caste, color or creed. The College offers two undergraduate programs: B.Sc. with 4 combinations: PCM, CBZ, PME & PMCs and BCA. The college has Boys and Girls wings of NCC, three NSS units, Scouts & Guides Unit and Youth Red Cross Unit. The college has been accredited by NAAC. In each of the three cycles of accreditation, the college improved its Grades from B to A. In the third cycle of NAAC accreditation in 2016, the college was awarded with highest grade “A” with CGPA of 3.07.

The college takes pride in having invited great luminaries like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Sri.T N Chaturvedi, Dr. Shivakumar Swamiji, ex- chief Ministers like Sri.S Nijalingappa, Sri. Veerendra patil and Mr. S M Krishna besides, several literary and cultural legends such as Kuvempu, Da.Ra. Bendre, Shivarama Karantha, G.S. Shivarudrappa, U.R. Ananthamurthy, Dr.Rajkumar, Narasimharaju, B. Jayashree, Puttanna Kanagal, sports icons like G.R. Vishwanath, Brijesh Patel.... and celebrities of science.

The Career-Guidance Cell of our college has been very active. It arranges Training programmes to empower students to perform well in competitive exams and campus interviews. Several reputed companies like Wipro, TCS and L&T, have conducted interviews in the campus. The college has been conducting UGC Sponsored seminars, quiz and other competitions under the auspices of Science Forum.
